This calculator estimates viewing comfort and planning heights. It does not replace your TV manual, mount instructions, stud verification, fireplace clearances, or local building/electrical requirements.

What the result means

Use the center height first, then check the edges.

The recommended center height is the main target because viewing comfort depends on your line of sight to the screen. The bottom and top edge heights help you mark the wall, check furniture clearance, and avoid surprises with large TVs.

Important caution

Bracket height is not the same as TV height.

VESA holes and wall plates vary by TV and mount. Treat bracket outputs as planning estimates only. Always verify your TV, bracket template, and stud locations before drilling.

Method

How the TV height calculation works

The calculator starts with eye height, TV size, and viewing distance, then adjusts for posture, room setup, tilt, and any obstruction below the TV.

01

Calculate screen size

TV diagonal and aspect ratio are converted into physical width and height.

02

Set the viewing line

Eye height, distance, and posture angle define the comfortable target line.

03

Apply constraints

Furniture, soundbars, mantels, fireplaces, and ceiling limits can force the TV higher.

04

Show tradeoffs

The result includes comfort warnings, tilt notes, and a wall-elevation diagram.

FAQ

TV mounting height questions

What height should the center of my TV be?

For a standard seated living-room setup, a good starting point is to place the center of the TV near seated eye height. The calculator adjusts this using your TV size, viewing distance, posture, and room constraints.

Should I measure TV height to the center or bottom edge?

Use the center height as the main comfort target. Use the bottom edge and top edge heights as practical wall-marking references.

Why does the calculator warn about fireplaces?

A fireplace or mantel can force the TV higher than ideal. Heat can also matter, so always check fireplace and TV manufacturer clearance requirements.

Can I use the bracket height result as a drilling mark?

Treat it as an estimate only. Bracket geometry depends on your exact TV, VESA hole position, mount model, wall plate, and stud locations.
